Case Study: Kenilworth Railway Station

Main Contractor: GRAHAM Construction

Ainsworth Civils worked with GRAHAM Construction on the development of the long awaited renewed train station in Kenilworth, Coventry. The previous Kenilworth Station closed in 1965 and since then the population of the town has doubled to 24,000. Warwickshire council commissioned the reopening of the station in order to ease traffic congestion, support an increasing population and improve the local economy.
To enable the expected increased footfall through the station, two new platforms had to be constructed. Ainsworth Civils installed the pile caps, laid the foundations and concrete beams for both platforms. With disabled access and lifts to both platforms the station is now fully DDA compliant for the very first time.

All this was achieved while maintaining the character of the original station by retaining and refurbishing the footbridge across the tracks. Ainsworth Civils installed concrete lift shaft bases for a new fully enclosed Equality Act-compliant bridge and lifts, constructed alongside the original footbridge to allow disabled access.

Ainsworth Civils laid the foundations for the new ticket office which includes a passenger waiting facility and secure cycle shelters. We also constructed the retaining walls bordering the new car park.
